Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that starting therapy—or even just exploring the idea—can bring up a lot of questions. That’s why we’ve put together this FAQ section to help you feel more informed and confident in taking the next step. Whether you’re curious about what to expect in a session, how neurofeedback works, or how to schedule an appointment, we’ve got answers. And if you don’t see your question here, feel free to reach out—we’re here to help.

1. What types of counseling do you offer?

We offer individual counseling (ages 15+) and couples counseling.

2. How can counseling help me (or us)?

Counseling is a place to notice, feel, and restore—Not to fix what’s wrong with you, but to return to what’s always been true: You are worthy of connection. You were made to heal. And your story still matters. Whether you’re coming to counseling on your own or with your partner, you’re likely carrying pain that didn’t start today. Maybe you’ve hit the same wall again and again—feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed, disconnected, or like something inside just won’t settle. From an Internal Family Systems (IFS) and attachment theory lens, counseling doesn’t just look at symptoms—it helps you understand why you feel stuck and how to find your way through, gently and at your pace.

3. What happens in my first neurofeedback session?

During your initial neurofeedback session, five small electrodes will be gently placed on and around your scalp to monitor brainwave activity. These sensors allow us to observe how your brain is functioning in real time as we begin your first protocol—customized specifically for you based on your qEEG brain map.

You’ll be seated comfortably in a recliner, with your eyes open or closed, depending on protocol goal. A series of soft audio tones, or “beeps,” will serve as feedback to guide your brain toward more regulated patterns. Each beep signals that your brain is moving toward your personalized training goals.

4. How long are neurofeedback sessions, and how often should I attend?

The neurofeedback training itself lasts 30 minutes, while the full appointment runs approximately one hour. This time includes preparation, training, and space to reflect on your experience. We request training twice a week. Most often, each protocol averages 30 sessions.

5. Do you offer telehealth for counseling?

Yes, as long as the client is within the state of NC.

6. Do you accept insurance?

For counseling services, we do! BCBS, Aetna, Medcost.

For neurofeedback services, we do not. We can provide a SuperBill for the client to self file for eligible reimbursement.

7. What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash and all major credit cards

8. Can I schedule a free consultation?

Yes. Please contact us at info@renewedmentality.com for your 15 minute complimentary consultation.

9. Is faith or spirituality integrated into sessions?

For many, faith and spirituality are deeply connected to healing, identity, and purpose. At Renewed Mentality, we honor the significance of your beliefs and welcome the opportunity to integrate them into the therapeutic process—when and if that feels meaningful to you.

Alisha Hill, MA, LMFT, received her graduate training from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, where she developed a strong foundation in the integration of faith and clinical care. This background allows her to sensitively incorporate Biblical principles into counseling for those who desire it.

At the same time, we deeply respect the diverse beliefs, backgrounds, and worldviews of every client. Whether you are deeply rooted in your faith, exploring spirituality, or prefer a more secular approach, Renewed Mentality will remain guided by your values, your voice, and your comfort.
